Technology is excellent, but sometimes, it can also be more challenging to learn than we want! For example, a slight learning curve is associated with scanning an Oova test strip — but we promise that once you get the hang of it, it becomes as easy as scanning a QR code at a restaurant (which might have come with a learning curve, too!).
When do I scan each test?
Whether you choose the Oova Fertility Hormone Kit or the Perimenopause Hormone Kit, your Oova kit will come with 30 test strips. Fifteen of these strips measure LH and PdG (a progesterone metabolite) together, and 15 measure E3G (an estrogen metabolite). Your E3G strips come in a separate box and are labeled "E3G".
On some days, you will be scanning just an LH/PdG test. On other days, you will scan an E3G test. And some days, you will scan both strips at the same time.
Scanning tips
Oova's cartridges were designed to work as either a dip test or a midstream test, depending on your preference. Here are our suggestions for ensuring the best possible testing experience and accuracy.
Note: On days when you are scanning both an LH/PdG test AND an E3G test, we recommend using the dip test method to ensure both test cartridges are fully saturated with urine.
Try applying a urine sample first
A urine sample can be applied to Oova's cartridge in two ways:
- Dipping the cartridge in a cup of urine (aka dip test)
- Holding the cartridge in a stream of urine (aka midstream)
We recommend using the dip test method with Oova's testing cartridges. This means capturing your urine in a clean cup, then dipping the pad of your test cartridge into the urine and letting it saturate until you see liquid beginning to move up the test line window.
If you choose to use the midstream method, flip the cartridge and handle upside down, facing the QR code away from you to prevent splashing into the test line window. Keep the pad of your test cartridge in your stream of urine for at least 5-10 seconds.
Get good lighting
Everyone's bathrooms are different, and that's fine! We do much work to normalize lighting effects, however a natural lighting hue works best. Please be sure that you are in a well-lit area when trying to scan your Oova test and avoid shadows on the test line window, if possible.
Ensure you're aligning properly
When the scanning screen opens up, there are guides to help you align everything properly. This can be overwhelming. However, it's a lot easier than you may think! Just follow these steps, and you should be good to go:
- Focus on the QR code first. Ensure that the QR Code fills the square in the boundary box that appears.
- Tilt your phone the right way. Once the QR code is set, tilt your phone to fit the region with the lines in the oval space.
If you still have trouble scanning your test strip, take a picture of the cartridge and send it to support@oova.life. Then, we can manually analyze and load your results into your app.
Scan more than one test (if you need to)
If you are scanning more than one test, after your first scan has completed tap on the TODAY tab, then SCAN AGAIN.
