It's always best to be consistent when scanning an Oova perimenopause cartridge, however, Oova knows that each woman may be looking for different insights during perimenopause. Here's more information about what time of day to scan and when you should start scanning.
What time of day should I scan?
You should scan with Oova at approximately the same time each day of your testing window. This can be first thing in the morning or afternoon. Pick a time that works best for you.
That being said, some women notice their estrogen and LH levels have a bit more activity in the afternoon/early evening. If this is a convenient time, make that your scanning time. If not, we recommend you scan in the morning for at least one cycle. Changing your scanning time to the afternoon may make sense if you do not see a lot of estrogen or LH movement.
Different scenarios and when to scan
Oova understands that each woman's cycle is different, especially during perimenopause. We are here to give some suggestions on when to scan.
If you want to establish a baseline
This approach provides a comprehensive overview of your hormone levels and sets the foundation for understanding your perimenopausal journey. You can start scanning right away to begin gathering valuable data.
When to scan: Scan for 15 consecutive days, at the same time each day.
If you want to sync with your cycle
Synchronizing with your menstrual cycle allows for a more targeted assessment of hormone fluctuations during specific phases. This approach aligns with the natural hormonal changes that occur post-menstruation, offering insights into your unique perimenopausal hormonal patterns.
When to scan: Start scanning once your period is over.
If you want to track symptoms along with hormones
Tracking hormone levels in response to symptoms provides real-time insights into hormonal fluctuations associated with specific experiences. This approach helps you correlate symptoms with hormonal changes, fostering a deeper understanding of how your body responds to perimenopausal shifts.
When to scan: Initiate scanning when you experience the onset of symptoms (i.e. hot flashes).
If you're looking for tailored insights
Whether you choose to establish a baseline, sync with your cycle, or respond to symptoms, Oova offers the flexibility to tailor scanning according to your unique journey.
When to scan: Scan based on your personal preferences. Customize your scanning routine to align with your perimenopausal experience and gather the insights that matter most to you.
How do I scan my tests?
Your Oova Perimenopause Hormone Kit will come with 30 test strips. Fifteen of these strips measure LH and PdG (a progesterone metabolite) together, and 15 measure E3G (an estrogen metabolite). Your estrogen strips come in a separate box and are labeled "E3G".
Tips for getting a good scan
Oova's cartridges were designed to work as either a dip test or a midstream test, depending on your preference. Here are our suggestions for ensuring the best possible testing experience and accuracy.
- Start with the dip test method: We recommend using the dip test method with Oova's testing cartridges. This means capturing your urine in a clean cup, then dipping the pad of your test cartridge into the urine and letting it saturate until you see liquid beginning to move up the test line window. If you choose to use the midstream method, flip the cartridge and handle upside down, facing the QR code away from you, to prevent splashing into the test line window.
- Lay it flat: Lay the cartridge on the holder or flat surface during scanning to ensure a clean scan.
- Scan at the right time: Scan your cartridge between the 10-minute and 15-minute mark. Any scans outside of this range are unreliable and will not be a good representation of your hormone levels.
- Get good lighting: Ensure you have good lighting in the room where you are scanning. Try to avoid lighting that creates additional shadows on the test line window, if possible.
To scan an additional test cartridge, tap on the Today tab, then "RE-SCAN". Follow the same steps you used to scan your first test cartridge.
Oova insight: On days when you are scanning both an LH/PdG (progesterone) AND an E3G (estogen) test, we recommend using the dip test method to ensure both test cartridges are fully saturated with urine.
Can I confirm my ovulation if I am going through perimenopause?
Yes, you can! To understand if you are ovulating, change your Health Goal from Perimenopause Tracking to Trying to Conceive. Don't worry if you are not actively trying to conceive; you will still gain an understanding of your fertility status.
What if I am on hormones, hormone replacement therapy, or bio-based hormone replacement therapy?
You can still use Oova if you are on hormones. Oova will show you how your hormone levels are changing while on prescriptions or supplements. If you are working with a provider or clinic, they can remotely track patient progress and adapt care suggestions based on real-time data. Oova can help transform the treatment journey, providing clarity and control over hormonal changes during perimenopause.
Will Oova tell me if I am in menopause?
Oova can help discover the nuances of your hormonal changes. If you're uncertain about entering perimenopause, our product allows you to monitor your hormone fluctuations, helping you identify whether ovulation is still occurring. This empowers you to make informed decisions about treatment paths and effectively manage any cycle-related symptoms and changes.
Note, according to NAMS, menopause is confirmed after 12 consecutive months without a period.
